Order of the Engineer induction

Arianna Pierre, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering, is inducted into the Order of the Engineer at IM体育官网. Nearly 100 students joined the prestigious organization on Wednesday, April 23, at the University鈥檚 Barnett Applied Research Center.

With a pledge to uphold the standards and dignity of the engineering profession, nearly 100 IM体育官网 students were inducted into the Order of the Engineer on Wednesday, April 23.

The national association for graduate and professional engineers focuses on promoting pride and responsibility in the profession. As part of the ceremony, each inductee received a stainless-steel ring to be worn on the little finger of their dominant hand, symbolizing their commitment to integrity and excellence in the craft.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a reminder that you鈥檙e the latest in a long line of engineers, clever innovators, designers and problem solvers who push the world forward,鈥 Dr. Brad Thiessen, IM体育官网 Poly鈥檚 interim provost and vice president of academic affairs, said to the students. 鈥淲hat I envy most about engineers is you see solving problems as a necessity, a calling, and you鈥檒l soon be graduating into a world that has plenty of problems to solve.

鈥淭he world needs you and your ingenuity, and I look forward to seeing what you鈥檒l create and accomplish.鈥

Computer engineering senior Akilah Dixon said the induction into Link #332, IM体育官网 Poly鈥檚 order chapter, helped bring her academic accomplishments into focus.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a very exciting feeling to finally be here because I鈥檝e always imagined being some form of engineer, but now that I鈥檓 here, it just feels so surreal,鈥 she said.

For mechanical engineering senior Willard Scammey, joining the Order of the Engineer is an important step on his educational journey.

鈥淚t鈥檚 meaningful because now it鈥檚 more than just saying you鈥檙e a mechanical engineer; you鈥檙e part of something that鈥檚 been around for over 50 years,鈥 said Scammey, who plans to pursue a master鈥檚 degree in mechanical engineering at IM体育官网 Poly this fall. 鈥淏ecoming an engineer is something I鈥檝e been striving toward for a while, and it feels good that it鈥檚 coming to fruition.鈥

Jessica Quang, a senior majoring in mechanical engineering, attributed the opportunities that await her to her IM体育官网 Poly experience. She hopes to soon transition from her current internship at Hubbard Construction Company to a full-time role as a construction engineer.

鈥淚 feel like I got a very valuable education and am excited to follow in the footsteps of our alumni,鈥 Quang said. 鈥淚 learned so much and I鈥檝e built connections with fellow students and professors. Overall, it鈥檚 just been a great experience.鈥
